In a warm and candid conversation, we sit down with Thomas Jackson, founder of Thomax Technology, a future-focused company developing best-in-breed WMS logistics solutions. .wms is the innovative, cloud-first SaaS solution transforming logistics management across the world. Here’s the story of .wms —a journey of single-minded determination to build and scale a modern, progressive WMS out of operational need.
Interviewer: Where did the inspiration for .wms come from?
Thomas: The story began during my time studying electronics engineering at university. While managing a warehouse, I encountered outdated practices including time-consuming, error-prone manual data entry and paper-based processes. These inefficiencies sparked a determination to find a better way.
Interviewer: How did you approach solving these issues?
Thomas: Initially, I started small by creating scripts to automate repetitive tasks, even repurposing an old dot-matrix printer to avoid handwriting freight dockets! These early explorations saved time, reduced errors, and highlighted the potential of modern technology to drive efficiency. Encouraged by this, I proposed implementing new technology to solve our problems. To my surprise, traditional software was overly prescriptive and didn’t meet our diverse needs. That’s when I decided to build the solution myself.
Interviewer: How did .wms develop from there?
Thomas: The early system, named Packer, was designed to address our warehouse challenges—improving accuracy, reducing costs, and meeting service-level agreements. Its success transformed our operations by allowing the system to reflect actual processes, saving crucial seconds across fulfilment operations. Before long, interest from established businesses persuaded me that our solution had potential for a broader, international audience.
Interviewer: How did .wms evolve further?
Thomas: Building on Packer’s foundation, we developed .wms as a fully cloud-first SaaS product, making it scalable and evergreen. Having spent many hours on the warehouse floor, I prioritised making .wms intuitive, user-friendly, and quick to train. Being event-driven and integration-ready was vital for rapid implementation, helping clients benefit from productivity gains quickly. With the logistics industry embracing automation and robotics, it was crucial for .wms to connect robustly to modern mechanisation, setting us apart from legacy providers.
Interviewer: What does .wms look like today?
Thomas: Today, with clients across the globe, .wms powers billions of pounds in commerce annually. Trusted by SMEs and global enterprises alike, we have a growing reputation for delivering bespoke, complex projects rapidly. Supporting our clients’ journeys and contributing to a well-connected logistics ecosystem is something we’re deeply proud of. But our journey isn’t over—we’re constantly innovating to meet the industry’s evolving needs.
Interviewer: What are you most proud of?
Thomas: The impact we’ve had on people’s lives and businesses. Knowing that .wms helps businesses grow and makes work easier for teams is incredibly rewarding.
Interviewer: What’s next for .wms?
Thomas: We’re focused on enhancing our offerings and staying ahead of industry trends. Whether adopting emerging technologies or refining features, we’re committed to helping businesses thrive. At Thomax, we’re not just shaping the future of logistics—we’re reimagining inventory management by embedding flexibility into our products and fostering a community of innovators.
